Power Up Philly – Community Tech Expo
In partnership with Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and Temple University, the Office of Innovation and Technology is hosting the first Community Tech Expo for Philadelphia residents. Generations on Line will be on site to demonstrate and guide attendees through introduction to conversational AI and AI safety awareness in English and Spanish, and give away instructional mousepads and typing tipsheets in English and Spanish.
Laptops will be given away to 1,100 pre-registered residents, half to older adults and half to youth. An additional 500 laptops will be available on a first-come-first-service basis. Eligible recipients (Philadelphia residents without a working computer at home) must arrive at the event by 10 a.m.
The goal of this event is to help bridge the technical divide and promote digital empowerment across the city of Philadelphia, through the laptop distribution, digital skills classes hosted by the City’s Digital Navigators, on-site technical support provided by Per Scholas Philadelphia, technology demonstrations led by Dell, Lenovo, Level Up Philly, and SAP, and over 40 tech-based vendors and local exhibitors.
