Building AI Literacy for Everyone: 6 Ready-to-Use Curriculum & Learning Resources
We know how precious classroom time is for educators and students. That’s why we continue to enhance the National AI Literacy Day curriculum resource library – which now contains nearly 150 free, ready-to-use lesson plans, resources, and activities for learners ages 5 to adult. Spanning math, English, the humanities, creative arts, and more, these adaptable lessons fit easily into any schedule, from quick 5-minute warm-ups to immersive 10+ hour units.

If you’re wondering where to begin, here are a few resources we recommend, tailored by grade level:
Grades K-2: Building AI literacy in young children requires an age-appropriate approach that keeps learners engaged. Day of AI’s AI Foundations for Early Childhood is specifically designed for learners ages 5-7, using play-based activities that last between 10 and 45 minutes. Educators will guide learners as they explore natural vs. artificial intelligence and discover basic AI concepts.
Grades 3-5: Demystify technology for young learners with Code4Kids’ Exploring Artificial Intelligence. Built for a standard 30- to 60-minute class period, this lesson breaks down machine learning, algorithms, and natural language processing, using everyday tools that kids recognize. Learners will build computational thinking by playing pattern recognition games to simulate AI training and designing their own custom chatbots.
Grades 6-8: Developed as part of their Content Authenticity Initiative, Adobe’s Middle School Generative AI unit equips middle schoolers (and older students to up grade 12) to become critical consumers and responsible creators of AI content. Aligned with Common Core English Language Arts standards, this three-lesson unit spans four to five 50-minute class sessions and explores technical mechanics, practical applications, and ethical dilemmas of AI-generated content.
Grades 9-12: While adaptable across grades 3-12, ISTE+ASCD’s AI Studio Lessons are particularly suited for high schoolers. Featuring 15 modular, hands-on projects that work as single-period activities or multi-day design challenges, these lessons guide teens to tackle real-world problem-solving, prompt engineering, digital citizenship, and human-centered design without requiring prior technical experience.
Grades K-12: For educators teaching across multiple age groups, Skill Struck’s Free AI Literacy Courses for Every Classroom offers complete grade-banded curricula. Available at no cost to schools and districts for the 2026-2027 school year, each comprehensive course contains both plugged and unplugged activities to accommodate various tech preferences and screen-time limits.
Adults 18+: Busy adults rarely have time for lengthy courses. Therefore, the U.S. Department of Labor launched Make America AI-Ready, a free, one-week AI literacy course delivered entirely by text message with no internet required. Designed for workers of all technical backgrounds, participants will learn core AI principles, as well as how to effectively prompt, evaluate outputs, and use AI tools responsibly in just 10 minutes a day. To start, simply text READY to 20202. Please note, this course is designed only for learners 18+.
