Building AI Literacy for Educators

As AI tools rapidly enter schools, leaders face growing pressure to act, often without clear evidence to guide responsible use. The American Institutes for Research® (AIR®)’s Teaching with AI project is addressing this gap by studying how educators engage with AI and testing professional learning to build AI literacy.

During this session, school and district leaders will engage in a guided walkthrough of two interactive professional learning modules developed by AIR experts. These modules explore foundational AI concepts, responsible instructional use, and the guardrails needed for effective implementation in real classroom contexts.

Participants will leave with:

- A clearer understanding of key foundational concepts underlying AI

- Insight into how to use AI and evaluate its outputs effectively

- Practical ideas for supporting AI literacy through professional learning and school-based conversations
